Again I’m absolutely mindblown by the eclectic music of Mastodon !!
MASTODON - The Sparrow - from the new album “The Hunter”.
So I’ve launched my new project and it’s entitled LETHALITY - a combination between the words “Lethal” & “Mentality”… It will feature all instrumental tracks w/ guitars, bass, programmed drums and in some cases synths… The idea behind is to let my mind flow freely and put any thought and musical prospect into this badboy and see what I come up with… It will ever-surely have elements of soothing calmness, ambience, raw brutal attacks, power grooves and possibly even a few psychedelic out-of-this-world ventures…
The original plan is to make an EP - or hopefully an entire fulllength album (w/ 7-9 tracks) and then have it released to the public through Facebook, Soundcloud.com, ReverbNation aso, but also to feature a physical edition with CD, cover, artwork, booklets if it ever gets the attention of a recordlabel…
A few songtitles have reached the surface - titles like “Lethal Mentality”, “Illusional Damage” and “Surgical Rebirth” and again the musical ideas are already happening… It’s not to say what’s to become of these songs - all I can really say is that they will definitely come from deep within and off the top of my heart… I invest every minute beside my daytime job and I will let all the creative juices flow - cos that’s what metal’s all about!
Please stay tuned for some instrumental snippets within the next couple of weeks - Thank you!
Thomas.
Nearly closing up the recording of the Embodiment Of Creation 3-track EP, I have almost half-ventured into my next ‘project’… A project that will consist of mainly instrumental songs and have a very loose metal-spirit to it… Inspirations and influences will come from bands/artists like: Animals As Leaders, Brain Drill, Intronaut, Blotted Science, Anomalous, Meshuggah, Decrepit Birth, The Faceless, Decapitated and others alike…
When I say ‘mainly instrumental songs’, I mean that one, two or maybe a few more tracks will have featured vocals - but right now I’m not sure whether it will be lyrics (with vocalpatterns), “spoken word” or just simple “non-wordy” backing choirs to accompany the songs itself…
It will have some deep edge to it - and feature blastbeats, fast picking, assymetric scales, alot of polyrhythmic tunes, progressive licks along with the simplest acoustic guitarpassages and solos… I’m hoping to create something that will move people but also to “set them off!”…
It will be a kind of mix between technical death metal, ambient music and cool melodic renderings - I will of course oversee the entire production, personally handling all guitars, bass, solos, drums (drum-machine), synth and of course recording and mixing it all…
Several musical ideas as well as a name for the project has been concieved and I’m actually drawing up the ‘logo’ right now - looking good! - and I will publish that and more, hopefully within a month or so…
Please stay tuned, cos this is one of the more exciting projects that I’ve ever led myself into hehe… Cheers!

Up until a few years ago I have always considered Obituary’s ‘94 release “World Demise” as the pinnacle of their career as well as their entire album-discography, but …I can’t deny “The End Complete” anymore… This is it!! This is the one!!
The album marked the return of guitarist/songwriter Allan West (who was a no-show on their previous effort “Cause Of Death”) and together with fellow guitarist/songwriter Trevor Peres, they created a barrage of sound on this album… Ultimately making it one of the best-selling death metal albums of all time!
According to Nielsen Soundscan the album has sold over 100.000 units in the US and has passed sales of over 250.000 worldwide…
“The End Complete” features wicked coverart by Andreas Marshall (Hate Eternal, Immolation a.o.) and of course a trademark production by mr. Scott Burns…
Check out the opening track “I’m In Pain” here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUYvDa-ayT4 (Pay attention to the almost 1-minute long outro - Classic stuff!!)
Went to the Suicidal Tendencies show at Voxhall last night… and they killed it!
I had no scepticism at all, but these guys took it beyond my expectations… Playing classic after classic, the audience was pumped and there were slamdancing / moshpit from the very first track and till the very last… I can’t really point out one specific bandmember who were better than the other - they all really excelled at their area and they were pumped as well and played an impecable concert…
The setlist included: You Can’t Bring Me Down - Institutionalized - I Saw Your Mommy - How Will I Laugh Tomorrow - War Inside My Head - Possessed To Skate - Pledge Your Allegiance - Send Me Your Money amongst others… Oh yeah, it was good times!
Actually, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a band that active on stage… If I’m like that at the age of 48 (lead-singer Mike Muir’s current age) I’ll be a very happy man… The band gave a tight performance and bassplayer Stephen Bruner and drummer Eric Moore were amazing on their instruments… Classic after classic - this is hands down my best concert experience ever!
The band played a full set and then came back for a 2 number encore, where everyone was invited upon stage - fukkin brilliant!! HUGE props to Mike and ST….. I hope they come back soon!

Happy birthday Dimebag - RIP brother!
Although an EP, I’ve always considered “The World Keeps Turning” as a kind of full-length album… This is primarily because I personally think that these 3 songs are the most well-written, well-mastered and best-played tracks Napalm Death has done to this day.
I got this CD in ‘95 - around 3 years after its release - and I’ve always cherished it as one of my most prized possessions when it comes to my record-collection. Propably cos of it being an ep and thereby seems a bit more exclusive…
It features new drummer Danny Herrera who I think brought a more deathmetal-like feel to the band - and actually this lineup remains today, except for guitarist Jesse Pintado who passed away in ‘04, due to liver failure caused by excessive drinking… Today Napalm Death marches on and their music is even more aggressive and extreme than before…

“In Cold Blood” (‘97) was one of the albums I remember fondly as being hugely innovative at the time of its release. Innovative in its sound, songwriting style and the uncompromised cover as well as lyrics…
It preceeded albums like Suffocation’s “Despise The Sun” (‘98) and Hate Eternal’s “Conquering The Throne” (‘99) while exceeding masses of slower and more ‘classic’ albums, such as Morbid Angel’s “Domination” (‘95), Cannibal Corpse’s “Vile” (‘96) and Deicide’s “Once Upon The Cross” (‘95)…
The searing voice of vocalist/bassplayer Jason Blachowicz, the torturous riffage and gritty playing style of guitarist Phil Fasciana and the heavy pummeling beats & rhythms of (then unknown) drummer Derek Roddy set to make this album one of the most brutal and relentless releases of its decade… Check out the titletrack using the link below - IT KILLS!!
